Hi Team,
I’m unable to see several tickets in my project. I kicked off the project in December, but the very initial tasks are not visible and I’m also unable to fetch them through JQL.
There’s a possibility that the tickets might have been archived or deleted, but I’m not certain.
Could someone please let me know if there’s a way to trace what happened to those tickets in Jira?
Thanks.
Dev Radia.
Hi @Radia Dev , thanks for your post.
I am sorry for your situation. That sounds frustrating.
What sounds like might be happening is that you have some filters on the board that are preventing you from seeing older tickets.
If you also can't retrieve them in JQL, there might also be some deleted or archived items in there.
The first place I would look is the board settings, if you think you are missing things you expected to see in the board.
Please check these two areas I have highlighted to make sure 1) there isn't some filter on the board that is excluding things or 2) that items are being removed from the board after 2 weeks. You can, for example, switch off the bottom option to remove things that are done if you still want to see them.
For the JQL, are you just putting project = (key)? and you aren't getting everything?
You can check if anything has been archived here - https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/archive-an-issue/
If anything has been deleted, that's gone, I'm afraid.
Can you have a look at these settings and see if it helps you?
If you have more questions or get stuck, please write us again here and we will try to help.
Cheers
Hi @Valerie Knapp,
Thanks for helping me out with this!
Regarding filters—I’m currently fetching issues directly using JQL. At the moment, I’m only using: project = "XYZ"
But I’m still not able to see the tickets. Unfortunately, it seems like the items might have been deleted, since the Archived view is also empty.
Is there any way for us to confirm if the items were actually deleted? Logs maybe?
Thanks,
Dev Radia.

Hi @Radia Dev , thanks for your reply.
I have just verified what @Chitra Nagdeo said in an instance where I have Atlassian Guard. I can see in Audit Log that I have deleted something, but, even if you did have this, it only goes back 180 days, so if you think the issues could have been deleted before that period, you won't have any trace of them
This is the view from the site admin.atlassian.com, which you may not have permission to view but someone in your company will, if you want to ask.
Sorry and best wishes

Hey @Radia Dev ,
Welcome to Atlassian community!
I understand you want to check missing Jira work-item on your instance, please refer below details:
Go to your project’s issue navigator.
Use the “More” filter and look for “Archived issues” or similar options.
If you have admin access, check the project settings for an “Archived issues” section.
Archived issues will not appear in standard JQL searches unless you specifically include archived items.
Go to admin.atlassian.com, select your organization.
Navigate to Security > Audit log.
Filter for “Delete” actions to see who deleted an issue and when.
Audit logs are available for all paid Jira Cloud editions and are retained for 180 days.
If the issues were moved to another project, their keys change (e.g., PROJ-1
becomes NEWPROJ-1
). This information is stored at DB level and you may check API endpoints
I hope this helps, have a good day!
Regards
Chitra Nagdeo

Hi @Chitra Nagdeo
Thank you for reaching out! The archived issues tab is definitely empty! Regarding Audit log, I do not see the option you mentioned!
Thanks,
Dev Radia.

Hey @Radia Dev ,
You must have Atlassian Guard subscription to view Org Audit logs, I believe that is not available.

Hi @Chitra Nagdeo
Got it! We will need to check with the internal team to see what is going on, and the audit log should be available! We'll keep you updated as we get it!
Thanks,
Dev Radia.
