Do sub-tasks count towards 3000 issues limit for project roadmap display?

One of our project teams lost ability to view their roadmap and looking through this article it sounds like it is cause they exceeded 3000 issues limit.

We may need to move them to a new project, but need to revisit how we work with jira, in order not to find ourselves in the same place again.

The team is quite large and they like to set up their tasks pretty granular. They haven't been utilising sub-tasks to date, so wondering if this could be an option for them - but before we reinvent their ways of working, I wanted to confirm that sub-task tickets will not count towards that 3000 issues limit.

A sub-task is still an issue in Jira so it would still count towards the limit.
