Do i need Portfolio......

Hi All,

I have been asked to set up Initiatives so that it goes Project->Initiative->Epics .

My current system in Jira is 7.8.0 ( we are planning on upgrading to 8.4.3 soon ), Do i need to be running Portfolio to get this to work ?

Portfolio does provide this functionality, but it does expect that your teams behave in a fairly "textbook" Agile way. If you're not doing estimation in a fairly consistent manner across teams (or not at all) you can expect to have issues using Portfolio. It requires a bit of setup in order to get working, as well.  

I suggest that you install in on a Dev instance of Jira and understand how it works before buying it.  We're often brought in to companies to "make Portfolio work." These engagements are rarely about Portfolio itself. They are about making the underlying Jira data and people processes consistent so that Portfolio can operate effectively.
