Is it possible to create a bar chart of the progress of all of my stories? Each individual story has multiple sub tasks, I want to make a high level visual display of the progress of the stories buy simply using a bar graph.
Each story is linked to a Feature which is linked to an Epic. I want the Epic and Feature to be dropdown menus then a single line bar graph displaying each story. As each sub task is completed the bar graph goes up.
Not sure if this is possible in JIRA or if I have to export the data and create this visualization in another system. (Spotfire, etc.)
Atlassian in-house solution for your use case is probably Advanced Roadmaps - did you check this out already? It's an incredible powerful tool and thus may be a bit heavy for the exact thing you're looking for, but it's definitely worth some research.
Alternatively, if you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you'll find options there. E.g., my team and I work on an app hat should be a nice fit: JXL for Jira.
JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a number of advanced features, including support for (configurable) issue hierarchies, issue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or conditional formatting.
With these, you can build a view like this in just a couple of clicks:
Is this roughly what you had in mind?
Any questions just let me know,
Best,
Hannes
