Hi,
In advanced roadmaps we have a structure with:
We are creating Initiatives with the field Fix version holding a very important information that we need to retrieve in Epics and Stories.
The problem is when we change the value of the Fix version in the Initiative I need the child Epics and Stories to have the same Fix version as the parent initiative.
I have tried to change the child issues with an automation but we have too many issues so the automation is failing due to the time to process.
How could I handle this a better way?
Have you tried using Jira Plan to update "all descendent issues"? It's a bit manual, but it is a "bulk" and hierarchical approach. And it's probably a good way to maintain the data going forward.
The following screenshots are from the Data Center version of Jira.
First, on the Initiative (Feature shown in our instance below), use 3-dots to select it and all child issues:
Once the issues are selected, use "Bulk actions" to make changes to the "Release" field (which is an unfortunate synonym for "Fix Version"):
Then set the new Fix Version / Release value:
Hello Mykenna,
That looks very promising I'm gonna try that next week.
Thank you for your insight! :)

@Hi @Philippe Puy / @Philippe Puy,
one other thing I could think of is to use an app like e.g. Issue Matrix for Jira to get the initiative, along with its fix version, shown on your issue screen.
An alternative might be to find a view in which you see your issues in the context of their hierarchy, so that you can easily spot an issue's parent/ grandparent, along with the parent/grandparent's issue fields. This would be possible in Advanced Roadmaps, but if you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, there are more lightweight options available.
As an example, my team and I work on an app named JXL for Jira in which this should work very elegantly:
For context, JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a number of advanced features, including support for (configurable) issue hierarchies as shown above.
Any questions just let me know,
Best,
Hannes
