Hi!
I have recently rebuild* my Jira project, from the old style to the next generation one.
In the old project, I could see the item categories in the backlog view.

Is it possible to display categories in the next generation project's backlog?

* it was very a very painful operation, though. Atlassian could provide some migration tool!

Thanks

Hi @Rodrigo Souza

When you say "item categories" - what are you referring to?

If you mean the Epic and Version Panels - which in classic boards appear on the left-hand side of the backlog - then these are drop-down filters on Next-Gen boards.

  1. At the top of the page, you'll see "Epics" and "Versions" in line with the user icons and search box.
  2. Click on these and select one or multiple Epics / Versions to filter the board.
  3. You can also select to have one of these at a time to be a panel using the on/off slider at the bottom of each list.

If "Versions" is missing from the top of the page, ensure it's activated for your Next-Gen project:

  1. Go to Project Settings > Features
  2. Toggle Releases & Versioning to on (green tick)

-----------------

If you mean customising the fields displayed on cards in the backlog - that is not possible at this stage, alongside most board configuration you have in Classic.

There is a suggestion you can vote on here: JSWCLOUD-17336

The current alternative is viewing the data in the issue detail view when you click on a card. The issue detail view is consistent with the issue layout in Next-Gen boards - to modify it to add a field:

  1. Go to Projects Settings > Issue Types
  2. Select the issue type you want to modify the layout for (you have to edit each individually)
  3. Drag an existing field - or create a new one - into the issue layout
  4. Press the blue "Save Changes" button

This will ensure it is visible in the issue detail view when selecting a card on the board.

-----------------

If neither of these answer the question, please provide more specifics around "item categories" :)
