Difference between "type" and "issuetype"

During a search, when I type

issuetype in (Story, Sub-tasks)

, nothing is shown. When I add

type in (Story, Sub-tasks) OR issuetype in (Story, Sub-tasks)

all desired Stories are shown. So what's the difference between these two fields: type and issuetype in a search?

I think there is no difference. Same with key and issuekey
