Difference between Work Log Started & Work Log Created

Support August 2, 2022

Hi

I Exported Excel Report from Jira, it has Two Columns i.e. Work Log Started & Work Log Created

When I have checked Work Log Started, it represents when the Issue / Ticket is created.

But I did not find Work Log Created Date & Time in the same Issue / Ticket   e.g.

Suppose, a Ticket No: 1154 created on Aug 01, 2022.

In Extracted Report, it shows Work Log Started = Aug 01, 2022 &

Work Log Created = Aug 03, 2022

So what is the Difference between Work Log Started & Work Log Created

Regards

Shahzad

Hello @Support

All the documentation I have found says simply that

Work Log Started is the date/time the work log was started.

Work Log Created is the date/time the work log was created.

Work Log typically refers to the entries created when you log work/time against an issue.

I've logged time against issues in my Free Jira instance, and I'm not seeing either of those fields getting included when I do a Excel/CSV/All Fields export of issue data.

Can you provide the steps you went through in creating the issues where you are seeing this data in the export, and the exact steps you used to export that data?

Hi Trudy P Claspill

Thanks for Reply

Kindly find attached the Steps you can take to generate an Excel File which will includes both fields. I have attached snaps of the steps from S1 .. S7.

Also, in Step 7, I have compared the actual Work Log entry by Suneel on August 1, 2022 at 3:42:55 PM on Jira with Excel File, which Exactly Matches with Work Log Started entry (Highlighted in Green Rectangles) (Issue ID: EFCS-1084)

But Can't Find Work Log Created entry on Jira which is Present in Exported Excel File. Also, Note the Time Difference in Work Log Created field in Excel File i.e. 5:43:42 PM (Date remains Same). In some cases, Date is different too.

It appears that the report you are using may come from a third party app or it is just not available in the Free version that I am using.

Could you compare the Work Log Started date to the date the issue was first transitioned to an "in progress" status. Perhaps it coincides with the time at which work was "started" on the issue based on the Status change.

Hi Trudy P Claspill

I Got it !!!

When I checked the Work Log & History Tabs, both Dates were there.

As mentioned previously, on the Work Log Tab I got Work Log Started Date which matched Exactly.

On the History Tab, I got Work Log Created Date which Matches Exactly with the Excel Exported Sheet as shown in Snaps below.

So it turns out to be Two Date Formats i.e., Manual (Customized) & Actual in Jira

Work Log Started Date = Manual (Customized) Date entered by End User

Work Log Created  = Actual Date when End User has created it, recorded by Jira in Background

Also, I have not used a third party app. It is available in Jira for Reporting Purpose. Not sure whether it is available or not in the Free version.

Any way, Thanks for the Guidance
