Defect Closure Date so defect aging can be tracked

Orazio Pensabene April 11, 2019

Is there an option to add a field like “Defect Closure Date”, i.e., the date when defect is moved to Closed status in JIRA? Or is there an in-built feature - report that we can use to get this info? Trying to identify the dates on which defects are getting closed but have been unable to find anything so far.

Hello Orazio,

I hope you are having a nice day.

Could you please confirm if "defects" is a custom issue type that you have created or if it is provided by a third-party plugin?

By default, the resolution field must be added to the issue together with the resolved date field when a ticket is moved to done/closed status.

That been said, the resolved date field would return the exact time your defect is transitioned to done.

Additionally, if you are setting the resolution field in a previous status, you can still use a date picker custom field to achieve it, adding a post function to add the current date to the field once it is transitioned to Closed.

For more information about the default resolution fields, you can check the documentation below:
