Default settings for projects

Maxime Lacasse March 2, 2022

Hello,

So my question is very similar to https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Software-questions/Looking-for-a-way-to-set-a-default-project-configuration/qaq-p/1661181 Which leads me to believe it's not quite possible unless something changed in the last year?

My bigger question is that the big drawback of doing this seems to have some problems with the kanban board. We used the "use other project settings" but the kanban board was not present and needed to be re-created. Is that normal or did I do something bad?

The main thing we dislike is that setting a new board can be annoying and rather technical. Setting the schemes also is tho so I'm not sure which path is best.

Thank you! :)

Agile boards are not automatically created for new Company Managed projects that are based on shared settings with another project. There is a change request about that here:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-12804

I'm not sure what process you are using for recreating your boards. Are you making a copy of the original board and then updating the board filter to be for the new project?

I have definitely added my vote to this issue! (How many is needed?)

Yes, that is what I did! The problem is there is quite a few settings to change so it can get confusing, but I guess we will have to deal with this and document the process better!

So copying from a project template is the usual way people go about setting a standard for projects?

Yes, that is the usual way.

There is also at least 1 app that I used before that can help with getting standard projects deployed.

Delegated Project Creator for Jira

I used it with Jira Server (vs. Cloud). The company I was at found it very useful, as it allows you to define project templates based on combinations of Schemes (rather than having to know another project that has the configuration you want), end users could submit a request for a new project based on the templates you make available, and you could delegate to non-Jira Admins the permission to fulfill the requests.

I haven't explored the cloud-version of the app, and I haven't looked at the app in a few years, so I don't know how the functionality may have changed since then.
