Default open issue in new tab from Jira board?

I know similar was already asked here and here. Neither of those articles is what I'm looking for.

It used to be possible to go to a Jira board and click on the title of an issue (or CTRL+click) and it would open in a new tab. Now it opens this special view in the sidebar, or detail view(whatever it's called) covers the whole page.

If I want to open multiple issues at once I have to:
- Open one on the same page, sidebar or detail view
- Click the New tab button, or CTRL+click title to open in new tab
- Close the overview
- Repeat with new issue

Super annoying to click back and forth like this. Is there any way to make issues open in a new tab when I click the title of the issue on the Jira board?

Hey @Katelyn Máté Nienaber

The trick is that on the current boards the card's summary text isn't a real link — only the issue key is. So Ctrl+clicking the title just registers as a card click and pops the detail view, which is the loop you're stuck in.

  • Ctrl+click (Cmd on Mac) the issue key on the card — that opens a new tab directly, without the detail view ever appearing. Middle-click on the key does the same.
  • There's no setting to make plain title clicks open a new tab; the tracked request for this on team-managed boards (JSWCLOUD-17990) was closed once key-clicking worked.
  • For opening a batch, I'd honestly switch to the project's list view or a saved filter in the issue navigator — every key there is a proper anchor, so you can Ctrl+click straight down the column.

Atlassian's front end does occasionally break Ctrl+click in specific views — if the key on your board genuinely doesn't respond to it, try middle-click or right-click → open in new tab, and if that also fails, it's worth reporting rather than a config issue on your side.

Thank you! That was very simple and I'm kicking myself for not trying it :D
