Hi Community,

I'm working in Jira Cloud and have created a Select List (single choice) custom field.
The field has the following options:

  • Option 1

  • Option 2

  • Other

In the custom field configuration, I've set the default value to "Other".
However, when I open the issue create or transition screen, the field shows:

None

instead of pre-selecting "Other" as expected.

So even though I've set a default, the screen still shows "None", and the user has to manually select a value.

What I've Checked:

  • Default is properly saved in the custom field context

  • Field is required on the screen

  • Field is used in both Company-managed and Team-managed projects

What I Want:

  • The field should show "Other" pre-selected by default

  • I don't want users to have to select it manually

Is this a Jira Cloud limitation for select lists? Or am I missing something in the configuration?

Would appreciate any guidance or known workarounds!

This issue is also happening with multi-select list fields — even when I set the default value to "None", the field still shows "None" as an unselected placeholder, rather than actually pre-selecting the "None" option.
