Our service desk relies on Jira for ticket management. We previously requested a text-based export of all tickets, including comments. However, the file we received does not display any comments.

Could you please clarify if this is a system limitation or if the export settings were incorrect? Please let us know, and if it is possible, we would appreciate detailed instructions on how to perform the export so that every ticket includes its associated comments.

Hi @Farma Fusion

You will need to use the option of Export CSV (all fields).

Once you open the CSV in Excel, you will find multiple columns for "Comments".

Example - If an issue has two comments, and the CSV file contains 2 columns with name comment.

Adding to this...

How did you request an export of all tickets?

Is that a request you filed with some internal Jira support team within your company?

It is possible for users to use the Search/Filter capability to get a list of issues and then, as @Marc -Devoteam-  mentioned, use the Export option on the Search/Filter screen to export the issue data. Here is an example of that option in Jira Cloud.

Hi, Farma Fusion!

In Jira, comments can't always be included in standard CSV exports. It is especially true if you are using the default Jira export. This may appear to be a system limitation, but it often depends on the export method and the fields selected.

To include comments in the export using Jira native capabilities, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Filters → All work items.

  2. Run your filter.

  3. Click Export → CSV (All fields) (make sure the Comment field is included in the export configuration).

But please note that in native Jira exports, comments may appear merged into a single column, and formatting is usually lost.

If you need structured exports of tickets from your Jira where comments, status changes, and field updates are clearly separated and fully preserved, you might want to try Issue History for Jira (Work Item History) app from my team.

It allows you to apply filters (e.g., project, date range) and export complete change reports with full comment history to CSV or Excel within minutes. This is particularly useful for service desk audits, compliance reporting, or detailed analysis.

If you choose the Excel format, you will receive such a report:

Hope it will be helpful!
