DNS record CNAME DKIM Active is not "taking"

I have all other DNS records confirmed by Atlassian but am hung up on this CNAME record for DKIM Active.  I do have the DKIM fallback verified, but this specific one is causing me some serious grief.  Is there a fix for this?  Is it not enough to confirm domain ownership by the other 3 records?

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the support.  So we use GoDaddy as our registrar.  They are pretty good at checking and confirming everything is correct.  Like I said...I have had to remove and re-enter the entries 3 times before each one took.  But I cannot get this final one to take.  I have been copying and pasting verbatim, do you know if GoDaddy has any specific requriements requiring the trailing period, etc.?

I very much appreciate your help and will begin looking into it on my own to see if I can't figure it out.

Since you're using GoDaddy, the 'verbatim' copy-paste might be a culprit. There's suggestions that GoDaddy automatically appends your domain name to the Host field.

Try this if you haven't done so already: edit that specific record and delete your domain name from the end of the Host/Name box, leaving only the atlassian-xxxx._domainkey part. Also, ensure there is no period at the end of the 'Points to' value.

Hi @Brandon Peterson ,

To clarify, are you following the verification steps under Admin > Organization Settings > Emails > Email domains?

Here's a few things to check with the setup of the DKIM Active record:

  • Prefix Over-labeling: Ensure the "Host" field only contains the prefix (e.g., atlassian-xxx._domainkey) to avoid your DNS provider doubling the domain name.

  • Proxy Interference: Disable "Proxy" or "Orange Cloud" settings (common in Cloudflare) to ensure the record is set to DNS Only.

  • Trailing Dot Syntax: Verify if your DNS provider requires (or forbids) a trailing period at the end of the "Target/Value" string.

  • Hidden Formatting: Re-paste the record values into a plain-text editor first to strip out any invisible characters or tabs from the Atlassian console.

Cheers,

Ben
