Custom Screens for Automated Subtasks From Automation Rule

Daniel Lim June 22, 2023

Hi everybody,

I am trying to create custom screens for my subtasks that are automatically generated from my automation rule that I have created.

This is what I have so far:

  1. When: Issue created
  2. If: Issue Type equals (my custom field I created)
  3. Then create 3 new subtasks (I created 3 custom subtask issues here as well)

Now, for each of the subtasks that it generates, I want to have different custom screens for each subtask (which I have also created).

Currently: The automation of subtask creation works as planned.

Problem: I am not able to see my custom fields that I have incorporated into my custom screens for the automatically generated subtasks.

Any idea on how to go about this? Please let me know if I was not clear with anything, I will try my best to do so. Thank you guys in advance.

Hi @Daniel Lim and welcome to the Community!

Your questions suggests that you are using company managed projects. That is a prerequisite if you want to associate screens you build separately with issue types in your project.

If that is correct, you need to associate your screens with your sub-task issue types through the appropriate screen and issue type screen schemes. That may be quite an elaborate process. So definitely read through the various support articles on managing screens.

As a short summary:

  • Every issue (type) can be created, edited or viewed. You can create different screens for these 3 operations. So, make sure you determine for each sub-task issue type if you want to use the same screen for each operation first and create 1 to 3 screens per sub-task issue type (which you seem to have done already).
  • Next, create a screen scheme for each sub-task issue type and link your corresponding screens to the previously named operations (create / edit / view).
  • Then, create an issue type screen scheme where you associate all issue types you have in your project with their corresponding screen schemes. You may want to update your project's existing issue type screen scheme.
  • And finally - if you decided to create a new issue type screen scheme - associate the issue type screen scheme with your project. That step should associate all screens to the intended issue types

Hope this helps!
