I am using Jira Cloud with the most recent UI. I have a custom field. It is not displaying on the view screen when it is empty. I have checked the screen layout and configuration of the field, and it is not set to "hide when empty". I also thought that it should still show up in the "more fields" section, even with it is empty. It does not. I have researched extensively and cannot find out why this is happening.
It only shows up in a workflow transition called "Admin Edit" that we have created to edit for specific admin to be able to edit the data. Seems like this could be impacting it, but shouldn't on the view screen.
Does it show any details when you go to the 3 dots and use the "where is my field" function?
Yes. It looks good when I do that.
Project and issue type scope - check
Field configuraiton - check
Field screen - check
Work item layout - check.

Hello, @Jay McKelvey ! Welcome to the Atlassian community!
Are you using the same screen for all the operations (create, edit, view)? Make sure the field was added to all of them,.
Another possibility would be if your team is using behaviours of the app Scriptrunner to hide the field.

Thanks @Izabela França The field is not included in the screen associated with "Edit issue". My thought is that it shouldn't matter as is the "view issue" use case in which the field in not showing up in when it is empty.
I'm going to double check on scriptrunner, but I'm pretty sure that is not active. We do have some Jira Automation running, but it doesn not appear these are touching that field.

@Jay McKelvey , I ran some tests and the scenarios are:
1. When the field is empty, it is not in the Edit screen, but it is in the View screen; it does not appear on the issue
2. When the field is not empty, it is not in the Edit screen, but it is in the View screen, it appears on the issue, but you cannot edit it

Thanks @Izabela França For your 1st scenario, the field should still appear on the Work Item/Issue when viewing it, correct? This seems like a defect, correct? If you can't show all the possible fields, then a user wouldn't know what all the field options are.
