I have created a custom field named "Additional Jobs" that is applied to one issue type across all projects on our instance. In all screens for the issue type it is shown as "Location" instead of "Additional Jobs". I have a location field but it is not applied to this issue type at all. What is going on here?

Hello @Kevin Offutt

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

How do you know that the field you are seeing labeled "Location" is actually the "Additional Jobs" field?

How do you know that the Location field is not applied to that specific issue type?

Are you a Jira Administrator? I ask because that will be relevant to what steps you might take to debug this.

Do you have any third party plugins that could be impacting this?  For instance the Adaptavist ScriptRunner app includes Behaviours functionality that can dynamically change the displayed label for a field.

I changed the screen during creation to only display the fields I wanted and when selecting "Additional Jobs" the "Location" field name is displayed on the screen.

The location field is only applied to one project and I did not use that project for my test issue creation.

I am a Jira administrator.

We do have ScriptRunner but I have never used it in the 4 years I have been working with Jira.

Have you checked the Layout for that issue type?

If the Location field is available in the Field Configuration used by that issue type, then it could be added to the view of the issue through Issue Layout

And the Additional Jobs field may have not been added to the Layout, or may be in the Layout section that hides empty fields.
