Creating a date field on Jira does not appear on calendar view

marcus November 29, 2023

Currently Jira provides default date issue fields like Start Date and Due Date. They appear nicely on the calendar whenever i choose a date.

However, since i cannot edit their names, I would like to create another field called Publish Date for purposes of reminding myself when to publish this piece of content.

I dragged the date field type from the Create a Field section and tried inputting a date but it doesn't show up on the Calendar.

Hello @marcus

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

You mentioned the Calendar view. That is available only on Jira Work Management projects. Can you confirm for us that you are using a Jira Work Management type of project?

If so that feature uses only Start Date and Due Date. You can't configure it to use other date fields.

If that is not the type of project with which you are working, or you are referring to a different calendar feature, can you provide a screen image to help illustrate what you are trying to change?

Yes I'm using a Work Management project. Meaning I can still create date fields for my monitoring but it doesn't show up on the calendar. If i want dates to show up on the calendar, I am limited to just Start Date and Due Date?

Yes, only the Start Date and Due Date fields are used by the Calendar.

The Calendar cannot be configured to show issues based on any other date fields.

hey @Trudy Claspill got one more question, when I create an issue directly from the calendar itself, both the Start Date and Due Date is automatically filled. Can I set it so that only the Due Date gets filled?

According to the functionality documentation only the Due Date is supposed to get set.

I observe the same thing as you, both the Due Date and Start Date are getting set.

I did not see an issues in Atlassian's public backlog about this. I recommend that you open an Atlassian support ticket to ask about this. If they report back an issue key for the issue, it would be great if you post that back here.
