Create issue via REST API with assignee's email address?

Is it possible to create an issue via the REST API and set an assignee using the assignee's email address in JIRA? If so, can I see an example of how it could be done?

@Radford Tam Here are point that might help you resolve this issue,

• To assignee, you need to check two configuration,
  1. You (or user you are using to call api) have permission 'change assignee'
  2. Assignee field is visible in create issue screen.
• Now on using email, I would say this might be not possible after GDPR changes in APIs, you will need to user UUID to set values of user related field.

Thanks for the pointers. I haven't seen any documentation on how to set an assignee using anything other than the accountId after the GDPR changes. So you might be right that it's just impossible. I'm hoping someone could prove that wrong.
