Create custom field for user name that is not free form but a drop down select

Hello,

I'm implementing JIRA for my company and for the create and edit screen I've created several fields for a user to enter an employee's name (e.g. Executive Sponsor, Business Lead, etc.) I do not want to be a free form field due to inconsistency of the data entry by users. At the same time, I do not want to provision licenses to all of these users because they will never enter JIRA either. At my previous employer, we tied it to active directory.

What is the best way to achieve this?

Hi @Camaron Carraway,

• Do you have a pre-defined list of users? If yes, Jira admin can create these users without giving an application access so that they dont count for license. Besides, they can be selected in create/edit forms via user-picker customfield (Executive Sponsor, Business Lead etc)
• If the name's are filled spontaneously in create form, you can apply regex validator in create transition of your workflow provided by JSU add-on. Or you can write your own script via Script Runner.  So, free text area becomes a formatted one.
