Could Jira support font-family selection (e.g., Consolas or Courier New) in comments and description

I frequently use Jira comments and issue descriptions to document technical investigations, performance analysis, timing diagrams, message sequence diagrams, log excerpts, and latency breakdowns.

One challenge I encounter is that Jira's rich-text editor does not appear to support selecting a font family. Normal text supports useful formatting such as colors, bold text, and links, but it uses proportional fonts where character widths vary. This makes it difficult to create aligned technical content.

For example, the following comparison is only readable when displayed with a monospace font:

Similarly, many engineers use Jira to document:

• Timing diagrams
• Message sequence diagrams
• Routing traces
• Log analysis
• Performance comparisons
• Debugging notes
• ASCII diagrams

To preserve alignment, the only practical option today is often to use a code block. However, code blocks are intended for source code and provide much less formatting flexibility than normal text.

What I would like is the ability to choose a font family for selected text or paragraphs, similar to how document editors such as Microsoft Word allow users to select the most appropriate font for their content.

For example, it would be helpful if Jira supported options such as:

• Default font
• Consolas
• Courier New
• Lucida Console
• Other common monospace fonts

This would allow users to create aligned technical content while still benefiting from standard rich-text features such as:

• Text colors
• Bold and italic formatting
• Hyperlinks
• Lists
• Other editor capabilities

I suspect many engineers are currently using code blocks primarily as a way to obtain a monospace font rather than because the content is actually source code.

Has this capability been considered before? If not, would Atlassian consider adding font-family selection—or at least a "Monospace Text" style—to Jira comments and descriptions?

I'd be interested to hear whether other users have encountered the same limitation and how they handle technical diagrams or aligned text in Jira today.

At the moment, Jira doesn't support selecting the editor's font family (e.g. Consolas, Courier New, or JetBrains Mono). The fonts used in the UI and editor are defined by Atlassian and aren't configurable by end users or administrators in the standard product.

I have seen similar feedback from technical teams. In practice, users typically rely on code blocks to preserve spacing and alignment, while technical diagrams are often created using integrations such as draw.io/diagrams.net or attached as images.

I don't think it is a native Jira functionality.

However, you can try a Marketplace App for both your requests (technical diagrams and fonts).
