Connecting Jira Sandbox to Proxy (Broadcom Layer 7)

Apryl Harris October 23, 2025

Hello Community,
I am an Atlassian Admin for my org. My org wants to connect Jira Cloud (Premium plan) to a proxy, Broadcom Layer 7 API Gateway, which will connect to ServiceNow.

I have some Atlassian developer note links but there seems to be no step-by-step instructions on how to connect and or what exactly is needed to connect Jira cloud to the proxy. I have read the Atlassian Developer notes, but since I am not a developer type I really do not totally understand them. I do think our 1st attempt will be to try to connect via API token since it seems to be easier, but OAuth2 may be an option, as well.

Is there anyone in the Community who has done proxy connection to Jira cloud and can provide step by step instructions, at least from a Jira cloud perspective?

Thank you!

Hello @Apryl Harris

Although it's been a very long time since I was a Jira Admin, it's my opinion that whoever in your organization requested that you undertake this task has seriously misunderstood the purpose of such a proxy system, and why attempting to put one between two external third party cloud services like Jira and ServiceNow would add significant costs and complexity whilst potentially undermining the performance and functionality of any marketplace apps used to connect those two services.

As such, the amount of investigation, planning and testing that would be needed to implement such an API proxy system in the manner and with the functionality you've inferred would be a seriously non-trivial task, and well beyond the scope of anyone here to simply provide you with "step by step instructions".

If however, your organization is adamant to proceed down this path, I would advise you to engage the services of an Atlassian Solution Partner in your region with the applicable expertise, and have them act as a consultant and / or undertake all the work for your organization.

Good luck!!
