Confluence Sandbox?

Hello I am trying to create a confluence sandbox that I can use outside of our data server. I was told that I can use the atlassian SDK to create one just on my computer but when I follow the instructions and install the atlassain sdk and java JDK I don’t know where to go from there. Can anyone help please?
