Component Lead not getting issue create notifications

Dean Malthouse April 5, 2021

I have the Notify Component Lead set in the project's notification screen associated with the project, yet the Component Lead does not get the notification. When I run the Notification helper it indicates the reasons the user does not get the notification. Component Lead is not listed in the results as positive or negative. When I add him as a single user in the associated scheme, he does get the notification. Not understanding why the Component Lead is not enough for him to get the notification.

Hi @Dean Malthouse,

There's 3 things you could check to make sure all triggers are in place to send the notifications correctly:

  1. The component lead should have browse project permissions to the project issues are created in in order to receive notifications. I would assume that will be the case, but still - it doesn't harm to verify this;
  2. When an issue gets created, the associated workflow should effectively throw the Issue Created event. In some cases, this is a generic event instead, and so the notifications aren't triggered. Have a look at your workflow and more specifically the create issue transition. The last post function of that transition should be the event that is being thrown.
  3. Make sure that a component is filled out when an issue is being created. And additionally, that a component lead is filled out for all components in your project (check under Project Settings > Components).

If all those are configured correctly, notifications should go out fine. I would not focus too much on the component lead not being mentioned in the notification helper, as that may be a different user for each component.

Hope this helps!

Walter,

  1. Component lead does have browse project permission
  2. Snapshot of post functions below

  3. There are a few components which do not have a lead associated. I will go back and get a lead associated with all components, it was set for the component in question, but I suppose it is possible that since there were some without a lead it could have caused the failure.
  4. post_function.jpg
  5. The Notify Development Team event does work

I have temporarily set up the lead to get a single user notification that is working, but that is not the optimal solution. As noted I will try to get a lead on all components in the project and see how that works.

Thank you for the response.
