My company is considering switching from team-managed software projects to company-managed software projects and we're running into difficulty with customization. We have a few different issue types that need to have different fields and when we've tried to create them they all share the same fields. Has anyone run into this before and can perhaps provide guidance?

Hello @Briana Bellamy

Welcome to the community.

Can you tell us (or show us screen images) that are leading you to conclude that the custom fields are shared by all issues types in your Team Managed project?

When I add a new custom field to a particular issue type in a Team Managed project, the field is added only to that issue type. If I go to another issue type at the same level, I can see the new field in the Previously-Created Fields list, but the field has not been added to that other issue type.

@Briana Bellamy Welcome to the Atlassian Community

The fields associated with an issue type are controlled by an issue type screen scheme that is then associated with a project. You will need to update the screen scheme to ensure that the proper fields so for each issue type.  You can follow the instructions here to set this up.  https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/manage-issue-type-screens/

The screen scheme could be used by multiple projects.  Any changes you make to the scheme will impact all the associated projects.  This is handy when you want to implement changes across the organization and keep things the same.  If the scheme is associated with multiple projects and you only want it to impact one project you will need to copy it and then update it or make a new scheme.  Once you have completed this you will need to associate it with the project.

@Brant Schroeder

The original post says that they are using Team Managed projects. Schemes are not applied to Team Managed projects.

@Trudy Claspill Thank you for your insights.  They stated they are on Team Managed and moving to Company managed.  The company managed is where they are having issues.

Ah, yes, you are correct! I was assuming they were stating the problem was with the Team Managed projects. Thanks for straightening me out, @Brant Schroeder
