Comment edits reflected in email notification but not stored in Jira

As far as I can tell from reviewing other questions, Jira doesn't store comment edit histories. However, I edited a comment and the change was reflected in a batched notification email that went to the reporter on the ticket. I had deleted a paragraph of irrelevant info and that paragraph was in the email, but crossed out to denote the change.

We haven't turned on the notifications for non-IT users yet, and are wondering if this is the expected behavior. Is the edit retained in a way that it can be included in the email notification, but not shown on the ticket?

Thanks.

Your research is correct, Jira does not have a comment-edit history on the issues.

My understanding is that the batched email system catches the edit event and stores it, but only until the batches go out.  Once the update emails have been sent, it discards the records.

There is a request open to log comment edits in full, but it doesn't seem to be going up the priority list.  Most of us long-in-the-tooth admins just turn off the ability to edit comments when we need a full history.
