Code and Release integration with self-managed GitLab

Hi! We're currently using Jira Cloud and we have a self-managed GitLab environment. We want to use the Development features (Code + Releases), however only Bitbucket and Gitlab.com are offered as solutions.

I'm wondering: since there is a GitLab.com integration, how hard is it to integrate into a self-managed GitLab instance?

There are some 3rd-party integrations that claim to offer this functionality, however we noticed that the few we tested either do not offer an integration for Code + Releases or they simply don't work as advertised.

So my tl;dr question: when will Jira add support for connecting to a self-managed GitLab environment?
