Hi!

Why does Claude Agent for Jira (https://www.atlassian.com/blog/company-news/claude-agent-for-jira) need Github for source control?

Don't Atlassian trust their own Bitbucket to do the job?

Will there be a version for Bitbucket available?

Best regards,
Marco

Hi @Marco Dieckhoff

@Germán Morales _ Hiera  Have right, but I try to explain that more pure.

"Claude Agent for Jira" and "Atlassian Rovo MCP for Bitbucket" are separate features.

The new Claude Agent workflow, where you assign a ticket to Claude in Jira to get a draft PR—currently supports only GitHub.

Bitbucket Cloud is accessible via the Rovo MCP server for external AI clients, but that requires a separate setup and doesn't hook into the native Jira UI flow, at least not at this moment.

Native Bitbucket support for the Claude Agent workflow hasn't been announced "Yet" - Well, with actual Trends, it's only temporary, so keep eyes open.

Best,

Hi @Marco Dieckhoff , it's less about trust and more about where the agent runs. Claude Agent for Jira is built on Anthropic's Claude Managed Agents infrastructure, and that hosted agent is the part wired to GitHub to read and write code and open the draft pull request it links back to the work item. So the GitHub requirement comes from the Anthropic side of this Beta, not from Atlassian picking GitHub over its own SCM.

Bitbucket isn't shut out of Claude, it just gets there a different way today. Bitbucket Pipelines support agentic steps with Claude Code as the provider (Rovo Dev is the default), so you can have Claude author and run code against a Bitbucket repo, just not through the assign-a-Jira-ticket flow. A Bitbucket version of this specific Jira agent hasn't been announced that I've seen; it's Beta, so the surface may widen, but I wouldn't bank on it yet. Bitbucket's Claude path is here: Agentic Pipelines with Claude Code.
