Changing the project key length in general settings will effect anything in jira

Will changing the project key length from 10 to 12 in the target instance, which originally has a limit of 10 characters in general settings, have any consequences when migrating a project from a source instance with a 12-character key length?

And if there are existing projects in the target instance with a 12-character key length, what effects might occur if the key length is later changed back to 10 characters?

Hi Bhargavi,

The key format definition is only used when someone creates a project, it just forces people to choose project keys that fit the pattern.

However, as you have modified the code to allow 12 character patterns, yes, there are going to be consequences in migrating 12 character project keys.  Jira does not support keys longer than 10 characters, and it will fail in some places unless your code changes have been applies to the target system.  Some apps will also fail.

What if incase we update it manually by changing the "Maximum project key size" in general settings property to 10 even if we have an existing project key of size 12
