How can I change the width of the columns in tables within fields with Wiki renderers? In the new view for Jira cloud, all the columns get the same width. I want to be able to reduce and increase the width of the columns.
All the information I've come across suggests that I may need a plugin for this... but really?
Hi Leogg,
Welcome to Atlassian Community!
I’m not sure if I understood correctly your question, so I would like to clarify if you would like to change the width of the table when using wiki markup/markdown editor on description/comment or if this is something related to a custom field.
If possible, send us a screenshot of where this table appears, so we can test here to check if it’s possible.
Regards,
Angélica
Hi Angelica,
Thank you for your reply! To clarify, I am using Jira cloud with the new view enabled,
and I have a table in the Description field of a User Story item, like in the screenshot attached:
As you can see, all the columns have the same width regardless of the text they contain.
I want to be able to change the width of the columns so that the contents are easier to read. In this example, I would like to make the first and fourth columns narrower and the second and third columns wider.
But no matter what I do, I cannot see a way to change the width of the columns.
This happens in the Description field, and also in custom fields (any multi-line text field with wiki renderer behaves like this in my project).
I would have expected being able to edit tables in Jira like I do in Confluence, changing the width by dragging the column boundary... Am I missing something?

Thank you for the details and screenshot!
I tested on my local site and also couldn’t resize the columns. This editor is almost the same as Confluence where there are some issues in resizing the columns' width.
Based on your request, I created a feature request suggesting the implementation of this ability:

You can now adjust the column width in tables manually. Hover over the column lines and drag them where you want.
You cannot, however change the width of the table so that it does not take up the full width of the page. I'm going to start another chain with this concern.
