Change current status name in workflow

Hello,

We have a status called Waiting for support. I would like to change the name and add an Icon to it ":) Waiting for support" for example. But when I changed the name it broke the Workflow and stopped working.

I reverted the name back and the workflow is now working correctly. 

How do I change the name and make sure the Workflows that it is associated with works correctly?

Hello John,

 I always make a copy of a workflow, modify it inactive one then apply the newly updated workflow with a new name like abc v 1.1 to the project/issues.
