Champions record already exists error while applying for community champion

I am trying to apply for the Atlassian Community Champion program with a focus on organizing Atlassian Community events. However, I am facing a few challenges and would appreciate guidance on the correct approach.

Previously, I submitted an application under the “online contribution” category using my primary email ID [email address removed for privacy], which was later denied. I am actively contributing on the Atlassian Community Forum with this same email ID and have earned around 30 badges along with a contributor tag, reflecting my consistent engagement and contributions.

Now, when I try to apply again (aligned with organizing community events), I encounter the following error:
“Oops! Something went wrong. A Champions record with this information already exists.”

Additionally, I have been advised to apply using a different email ID, but I am concerned that using a new email (with no prior contributions) will not reflect my actual community involvement and may impact my application.

Could you please guide me on:

1. How I can proceed with applying for the event contribution category
2. Whether it is possible to use my existing email ID for the new application
3. How to resolve the “Champions record already exists” error

My goal is to actively contribute by organizing Atlassian Community events and continuing to grow within the ecosystem.

Looking forward to your guidance.

Thank you.

Hey Thanks for responding,
as I mentioned @Tomislav Tobijas , they responded to me to reapply using new credentials. However, I have a concern about applying with a new email ID affect or reduce my chances of selection?,
The reason I ask is that my current email ID is where I actively contribute on the Atlassian Community Forum, and I have built my profile there with consistent participation, badges, and engagement. I want to ensure that my actual contributions are properly considered during the evaluation.

Any clarification or guidance on this would be really helpful.

Hi @Yashodip Jadhav ,

If you applied earlier, that could be a bit tricky, as records are related to the email address to which you've applied. Now, there are some options here:

  • Reach out to the Community Managers team via communitymanagers@atlassian.com (source Frequently asked questions)
Their team can modify earlier submission and/or point you in the right direction when it comes to submitting a new one)
  • As you've mentioned, you've already contacted the support team - you could simply follow up on that request/discussion and point out your concern there.

In both cases, you should be able to make that additional note when it comes to your old submission, the new one, and also your current contributions and stats that are related to the account you're currently using. 👈

I guess you already did check, but here are the requirements you'll need to meet to apply to the program: Become an Atlassian Champion / Who’s eligible to apply?

Cheers,
Tobi
