Category Field: Search and Input

Roxsanne October 14, 2025

Is there a search input that will filter for the 'Category' field across all Jira projects or is 'Category' only specific to one project when added?
Ideally it would be like the 'Label' field. Once a Label is created by a user in one project it is also available in all projects. When you enter in the Search bar there is an option to filter by Label and once a Label is selected there is a list of all the tasks with this Label across all projects in a dropdown.

Have a follow-up on the search results. Is it possible for it to open on a webpage instead of a dropdown?

Thanks

Hello @Roxsanne

The built-in Category field available in Business projects contains project-specific values. Those values are not available in other projects. They can be duplicated in other projects, but not "shared".

If you use the same value in the Category field in multiple projects, then searching for Category=<that value> will show issues from all the projects where the value has been used.

The above assumes that you are referring to the built in Category field.

Regarding the search results opening in a web page instead of a dropdown, if you are referring to the large Search input field that appears at the top of the screens then the answer is no.
