Ana Folks March 7, 2025

Ever since the epic field was replaced with parent, we can no longer see the epic name in exceI when importing data from jira using the jira cIoud addin.  Is there a way to get the epic name to show in exceI using the jira cIoud add in?

SeIected both the parent and parent name fieIds

Hi @Ana Folks ,

Since the changed from Epic Link to Parent field. You should use the summary of the epics to consider as Epic Name.

The fields Epic Name and Epic Link is not used anymore by Atlassian.

Hope this helps you :)

Hi @Ana Folks

as already suggested, the epic link has been deprecated by Atlassian, and replaced by the parent field. I would assume that you can import the parent field into Excel, but I'm not sure how it would be represented there.

Alternatively, if you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you'll have more options available. E.g., you may want to have a look at the app that my team and I are working on: JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a long list of so-called smart columns that aren’t natively available, including the parent summary, along with many other parent-related columns.

This is how it looks in action:

parent-summary-export.gif

As you can see above, you can easily sort and filter by the parent summary, and also use it across JXL's advanced features, such as support for (configurable) issue hierarchies, issue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or conditional formatting.

Of course, you can export your data in just 2 clicks.

Any questions just let me know,

Best,

Hannes

Hello Ana Folks

I'm using Excel with the Jira add-in, but there's a small inconvenience: the 'Parent' column only displays the epic key instead of the epic name or summary. Here is my workarround

You can first download all epics into your Excel sheet, including the epic name, summary  field.

Download the necessary data onto a new page . Then, whenever you need to display the epic name or summary instead of the key, use Excel's VLOOKUP function to match them with your initial download.

Hope this can help

@Ana Folks

In the JQL search columns, are you able to see Epic Name? if not see if the custom field is available in your instance and needs to be mapped to a screen.

We were using Epic Name. so I can see it in my cloud instance.
