Cannot remove member from group

Lai_ Hongyu_ Lianwei China September 6, 2023

When I remove a person from the group, Jira reminds me that "I cannot remove this person from the group. This user's directory is read-only." I already have Jira administrator privileges. Where do I need to solve the problem when this phenomenon occurs?

Hi @Lai_ Hongyu_ Lianwei China ,

The LDAP/AD User Directory is set to Read Only.

https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/jira-server-throws-directory-is-read-only-error-when-adding-users-to-groups-264044699.html

Verify the Permissions Settings are correct for the external User Directory.

If you want to make changes, Read/Write will need to be activated. If using Active Directory, please refer to this page on Configuring an SSL Certificate.

Hi @Lai_ Hongyu_ Lianwei China

You mentioned the user directory connected to your Jira instance is configured as read-only. It doesn't matter that you're a Jira administrator at this point because the directory is external. You need someone administering the user directory for your changes regarding the group membership. Or you have to generally change the way the directory connection is configured in Jira, which might not be the best solution.

Best, Max
