Cannot create an issue collector for epics

Florian Engertsberger January 22, 2020

Hi everybody,

I wanted to create an issue collector for the issue type epic. But trying to save the issue collector nothing happens. No error message and nothing is saved.

I noticed in the configuration of the issue collector, that I cannot add the field "Epic Name" which is mandatory for epics by default.

The field configuration and all the other configurations of the project is completely default.

So, is it possible to create an issue collector for epics at all?

Would appreciate any kind of help.

Best regards,
Flo

Hello @Florian Engertsberger

Thank you for reaching out.

Indeed, Jira does not have the ability to create Epics using the Issue collector functionality. Allow me to explain why:

The Issue collector was initially created to allow any user (Including the ones with no account in your Jira) to send a feedback form directly from your web site to Jira, as explained in the documentation below:

Using the issue collector

That being said, an Epic issue is basically a big amount of general work defined in your Jira that should be split into small portions of "specific work", not being the ideal issue type to collect feedback from customers.

That being said, we clearly understand that you, together with other customers, have a different goal that requires the creation of Epics through your own web site/form, so we created the following feature request to get the use-case that you are trying to achieve and implement that possibility for Jira Server:

Add system field to issue collector form
