The following is what I am trying to accomplish:
The owners of our company would like to see a live list of all of our tickets in Jira within Microsoft Teams, so everyone in the company has a view on what is being worked on. I would like for them to be able to see these tickets WITHOUT giving everyone in the company access to our Jira board. I have integrated the Jira Cloud app through Teams, but this requires users to log into their Atlassian account to see the tickets.
Is the above situation something that is possible? I am happy to provide more details if necessary.
Hi @Austin Moody
It's Mary from Planyway
Integrating Jira with Microsoft Teams to display a live list of tickets without requiring individual access to the Jira board is a scenario that requires a bit of customization and potentially the use of third-party tools or services. Here are a few approaches you might consider:
Jira Cloud for Microsoft Teams Integration (Customized): You've mentioned that you have integrated the Jira Cloud app with Teams. Usually, this integration requires individual Jira accounts to access the tickets. However, you might be able to create a shared, generic Jira account with read-only access to the necessary boards and projects. This account can then be used for the Teams integration, allowing everyone to view the tickets without individual Jira accounts. This approach might require you to check the feasibility and compliance with your company's security policies.
Jira Webhook and Teams Bot: Develop a custom Teams bot that listens to a Jira webhook. The webhook can be configured in Jira to send updates to the bot whenever there is a change in tickets. The bot can then post these updates in a dedicated Teams channel. This would require some development effort and understanding of both Jira's and Microsoft Teams' APIs.
Third-party Integration Tools: There are third-party tools and services that offer more sophisticated integrations between Jira and Microsoft Teams. These tools might provide solutions that display Jira tickets in Teams without requiring individual Jira accounts. Examples include Zapier, Automate.io, or other similar integration platforms.
Power Automate (Microsoft Flow): Use Microsoft Power Automate to create a flow that pulls data from Jira and posts it in a Microsoft Teams channel. This approach would also require a generic Jira account with the necessary permissions, and there would be a need to configure the flow to periodically check Jira for updates.
Custom Dashboard or Reporting Tool: Create a custom dashboard that pulls data from Jira using Jira's API and then display this dashboard within Teams. This would require development effort to set up the dashboard and ensure it updates in real-time or near real-time.
Each of these solutions has its pros and cons, involving trade-offs between ease of implementation, customizability, and adherence to security policies. It’s important to evaluate each option in the context of your specific requirements, technical capabilities, and organizational constraints.
Welcome to the community. Unfortunately, you can't out of the box.
I suggest you purchase a dashboard hub plugin which allows you create dashboard and have them accessed externally without consuming a license. Link:https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1223898/dashboard-hub-pro-chart-report-diagram-external-share
We use it for some clients who can then see which tickets are being worked on.
Thanks,
Fabian
