Can you change an Epic to a story?

I've created an Epic that upon discussion is actually more of a story. I wish to change the existing Epic to a story so I can link it to another Epic and add story details.

Is this possible, and if so, how can it be done?

You can do it. Use the move option to change the issue type of an issue:
