Can't create sub-tasks for a story.

I have tried everything. I have created Epics, Stories and Tasks but can't see how to add a sub-task to a story. In Jira Settings I have sub-tasks turned on but it is still not coming up as an option with the "..." for a story. I can add to an Epic no problem but I want to assign individual tasks under a story.

To get sub-tasks in a project, you need:

• Sub-tasks enabled in the config (you have that)
• One or more sub-tasks added to the issue type scheme
• To be using a project type that is not a Cloud Next-gen project (they don't do sub-tasks.  Yet)

Thanks Nic, appreciate the detailed answer - yes I am using a Cloud Next-gen project so a catch for young players. Just getting back into JIRA after having had to work with Azure DevOps for the last year!

Hello,

If you are on Jira Cloud and you have a next-gen project then it is not possible to add a sub-taks.

In all other cases have a look at the issue type scheme and make sure that you have a sub-task issue type defined for your project.
