Hi everyone,

I'm currently working with a Kanban board in a team-managed project, where I recently enabled the Scrum feature. After doing so, all of my "To Do" tasks were automatically moved to the backlog.

From the backlog tab, I was able to successfully create and start one sprint. However, I'd like to plan ahead and create additional future sprints without starting them immediately.

When I try to use the "Create sprint" button in the backlog, I get a popup error saying:

Something's gone wrong.

Refresh the page and try again.

-> Refreshing the page doesn't resolve the issue.

As a comparison, I also tested this in a Scrum-native project. There, I noticed that I could only create one sprint at a time. The only way to create the next sprint was to complete the current one and then move tasks into the new sprint — which works, but seems limiting.

This leads me to a concern: what if all tasks are completed and there’s nothing to move into a new sprint? Will that block sprint creation entirely?

Has anyone experienced this issue or found a workaround for planning multiple sprints in advance within a Kanban board in team-managed project with Scrum feature enabled?

Thanks in advance!

Hello @Oleksii Kvasnikov

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Regarding the error you are encountering, I have not been able to recreate that.

Nor am I able to recreate the second issue that you mentioned with a project that was initially set up as Scrum, where you can only create one sprint at a time. What happens when you try to create the second one?

There is a Product level setting to enable or disable Parallel Sprints. I have tried to recreate your scenario with the option disabled and enabled and did not encounter your issues in either case. But you could try enabling Parallel Sprints to see if that alleviates your issues. Do that on this page:

Regarding your second question about creating more than one sprint at a time, you should be able to create multiple sprints, and populate them with issues. You would find the button for creating sprints at the top of the Backlog list within the Backlog screen.

Are you not finding that button available, or finding it disabled, when you already have one unstarted sprint in your Backlog screen?

There may be a deeper problem that will require help from Atlassian Support if

Let us also correct your terminology. A board is either "kanban" or "scrum". In your Team Managed project if you have enabled the Sprints feature then you are using a Scrum board. If the Sprints feature is not enabled, then you have a Kanban board. It is not correct terminology to say you have a Kanban board with Scrum enabled, since the two types of boards utilize different methodologies.

For Team Managed projects you can toggle the feature on and off to switch between the two types of boards for the one board that is created automatically for the project.

The issue was with my browser (Firefox). I had to clean cookies and site data and everything started to work as expected.

Hello,

Welcome to the community :)

It seems that you have all the necessary permission and still unable to see the create sprint button from the backlog

As Trudy mentioned parallel sprint if on or off shouldnt grey out the button

Could you please check if your team managed project has two different workflows for the issue type ?

Another way to maybe can try here is maybe open the workflow editor, add a status and save the workflow for the issue types . Then return back and remove the status if you dont need and save the workflow again

Just suspecting maybe spme workflow sync issue here

Thank You,

Prachi
