Can't configure Company Based Board

Quinn Rankin

I'm an admin on two different Scrum boards: a Team Board and a Company Board. On the Team Board, I can configure epic fields and delete tickets, but I don’t see either option on the Company Board.

Hello @Quinn Rankin

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

The ability to delete tickets is based on the allocation of Permissions within the project. Permission allocation is different between Team Managed and Company Managed projects.

In Team Managed projects permissions are allocated based on Project Roles. A user that has the Administrator role in such a project will have permission to delete tickets.

In Company Managed projects Permission Schemes are used to allocate permissions. Each project has a Permission Scheme associated with it. A given Permission Scheme can be associated to multiple projects. Within the Permission Scheme permissions can be allocated based on any one or more of the following (not a complete list):

  • Project Roles
  • User Groups
  • Individual users
  • User and Group fields

The Permission Schemes are managed by the Jira App Admins.

In the Permission Scheme associated with the Company Managed project you may not be allocated the permission for deleting tickets.

Side Note: it is generally advised to not allow deleting tickets. Deletion is permanent and immediate. Tickets that have been deleted cannot be recovered. So it is better to instead close the tickets with a Resolution value that indicates they should be disregarded.

Regarding configuring fields, what exactly are you trying to do?

In a Team Managed project a user in the Administrator role for the project would be able to create new custom fields and change the fields that are associated to an ticket type.

In a Company Managed project Jira App Admins control the creation of new fields and the association of them with ticket types.

Lastly you may have Admin permissions for a Scrum Board associated with a Company Managed project while not having Admin permissions for the project itself. That also will limit what you can and cannot do.

for the company board, I don't have access to configure fields at all. The fields we want to configure would be to remove sprints and to make it a start end date. We have a workaround which is to leave the field empty and then on timeline drag the start and end date.

Perhaps I misunderstood. You said you had two Scrum boards. Why would you want to remove the Sprint field when you use a Scrum board?

If you no longer want to use Scrum Sprints to manage your projects:

1. For the Team Managed board you can disable the Sprints Feature (Space Settings > Features). That will change your board to being a Kanban board instead.

2. For the Company Managed project you would need to create another board based on the project - a Kanban board.

If you are an administrator for the Company managed project you may be able to hide the Sprint field and add the start and end date fields by modifying the Layout for the issues. Refer to
