Hey, this seems like a temporary issue but my organization can't assign people to tasks since this morning (we had this option before for years).
This is both for Jira Software and Jira Service Management.
When I expand the user list, nothing is happening (I can only unassign it or assign it to me)/ When I start typing someone's name, all I get is an option to invite them to Jira.
I checked permissions and user directory, nothing seems weird.
Is anybody else experiencing this issue?
We are experiencing the same issue - seems to be a bug.

Can confirm. We have checked every relevant setting on our end and the status page: https://status.atlassian.com/. Everything is set up correctly, we'll just have to wait for an announcement.

Confirming same: we're seeing the exact same thing on our site since this morning. The Assignee picker and @mentions both come up empty when you type a name, only offering "invite to Jira", even for users who are active, licensed, and correctly permissioned.
We dug into it on our end. The affected users are active with Jira access, sit in assignable project roles, and have Browse Users, and their account records are all present. It's specifically the search that's dead. The REST user-picker endpoint (/rest/api/3/user/picker?query=) returns "0 of 0" even for a common first name that matches several active users, while the bulk user list and direct account lookups work fine. So it looks like the user-search index, not permissions.
Moving people between groups makes no difference.

We are experiencing the same. If we go to people and access for each project as well no one appears to be there but people can still access. Will we get an update on when this can be resolved.

We've seen some Spaces have the default Administrators and Users stripped from the 'People' section of the space. We've also not presently able to select users via the dropdowns for assignment or to give permissions.
I'm assuming some of this is what has then had a knock-on to our automations which were also not working. We were able to manually add back in the Administrators and Users stripped from the 'People' part of the spaces.
We have also noticed that individual users who used to be listed in the 'People' section are now absent, and we cannot add them back in due to lack of dropdown, and no emails being sent when we define the email address.
This is still very much an active issue for us at this very moment despite the applied fix.

I have the same problem. I also can't select teams in the task. It only offers to create a new team.

Hello @Jagoda Zawadzka
It could be that there is an incident affecting the database, which has not been published yet.
Please have a little patience.
Best,

Please update us with the solution

Because this is the Atlassian Community forum, not the official Atlassian Support page.

Yes, we are experiencing the same issue across all of our projects. It appears to be a known issue that Atlassian is currently working on.
