Can issue types (bugs) be merged (not linked) ?

Can issue types like bugs be merged (not linked).

We have several similar bugs reported but want to merge them all under 1 key (all of them share the same root cause).

How can this be achieved?

No. The normal practice everywhere I've been is to pick one, usually the first one, and link all the others as duplicates and close them with a resolution of duplicate
