Can a Sprint be Completed with Test Cases that have "Test Approved" status?

  • The Test Case workflow is configured as Open> Test Approved> Done.
  • I want to avoid taking the extra step to change the status from "Test Approved" to "Done".
  • When all of the Test Cases are "Test Approved" for all of the Stories that are "Done" in the Sprint, I want to change the status of the Sprint to "Completed"

Will the system allow this? Or do the Test Cases have to be "Done" as well?

Hi @Kristie Tokifuji

I am unclear on what you are asking; perhaps you could answer some follow-up questions to help the community offer you suggestions.

  • Are you using a marketplace addon app for test management, or did your team add an issue type for tests, or are you just using the built-in types (e.g. story, task, etc.)?
  • Would you please explain how your team is using Scrum?
    • You seem to describe two processes: one for development and one for testing.  Are these items in the same sprint on the same board?
    • With Scrum, a Sprint is a defined timebox (e.g. 2 weeks) and scope (Sprint Backlog), and does not complete automatically when work items reach a particular status.  How does this compare to what your team does?

Kind regards,
Bill

Hi @Bill Sheboy

  • Not an addon app, not an Issue type that is a test. A Story with a Subtask type that is "Test Case" vs. "Subtask"
  • The "Test Case" is a Subtask in the Story, the Story is in the Sprint
  • Same, the Sprint status does not automatically change. It is manually changed by going to the Active Sprints page and clicking the Complete Sprint button - the system does not allow the Sprint to be completed when any Story or Subtask type ("Test Case" or "Subtask") is incomplete

Clarifying my question:

  • When a Subtask in a Story is a "Test Case" and the Test Case workflow is configured as Open> Test Approved> Done, does the system consider the Test Case status "Test Approved" to be completed?

I  figured out the answer - YES!

  • As a result, when the Stories are DONE, and all of the Test Cases are "Test Approved" the Sprint can be completed

Application:

  • We've enabled Parallel Sprints. We timeboxed the development of each Sprint (2 weeks). The Sprint remains Active until the Stories are DONE, the related Bugs are DONE, the Test Cases are "Test Approved".
