Can Jira search for a story labelled release and then automatically create specific subtasks?

I'm setting up an automation and I want to search for stories labelled release and then get the user to select the right one and then deployment activities to automatically be created as subtasks under the specific story they chose. Is it possible?

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

You can't have the rule first search for issues and present that information to a user and prompt them for a response. Automation rules are intended to run without interaction from the user. The exception is Manual Trigger rules which a user does start manually, and which can have prompts up front to get user information, but you can't have prompts mid-way through the running of the rule.

You could have a rule for creating the deployment activities subtasks, and that rule could be triggered manually by a user directly from the relevant issue.

No, because an automation rule cannot stop processing to wait for user input/issue selection.

As an alternative, you could create a filter on the labels, have the user select the one they want to view it, and then run a manually triggered rule to create the subtasks for it.
