Can JIRA Software be upgraded without upgrading JIRA Service Desk

I have Jira-software Server version 7.9.1 installed using MS SQL database, and Jira Service Desk 3.12.1. Can JIRA software be updated to version 8.4.1 with out updating JIRA Service desk?

No, because Jira Software requires Jira 8.4.1 which mandates Jira Service Desk 4.4.1
