Can I set up a default value in Field that will disappear when I'll type? (In text field)

I want to set up a text field and add a default value that will disappear when I type something. Can I do it?

Thanks!

Hi @Gilad Ouzan and welcome to the community!

Of course you can set a default value.

  • Go to cog > issues > custom fields
  • Find your field and click ellipsis menu > context and default value
  • Click Edit Default Value
  • Enter your default value

When you will try to create a ticket your default value will appear in the field. If your user will not edit it, then this will be entered in the opened issue.

Hey @Alex Koxaras ,

Thanks for the dast response here!

I want to create it when the user will start to type in this field that the default value will disappear automatically, is it possible?

no, it's not possible to have a text placeholder, with grey color like the ones you usually see on the internet. Placeholder has it's purpose, which is to guide the users with instructions on how to fill in a field. Jira has the instruction (description) of that field, right below the actual field. So there is no need to have a placeholder.

On the other hand, if you were using the on premise version, you could possibly do that with a workaround.
