We would like to be able to see the issue type "milestone" in our sprints and backlog in the backlog view of our scrum board. Is this possible? We are using a service based version of Jira at present (pending upgrade to cloud)
Hi @Dione Taylor ,
What's your case to use milestones? You may find this article interesting: https://reliex.com/blog/three-ways-to-track-your-milestones/#:~:text=Milestones%20in%20Jira%20projects%20are,dates%20or%20start%2Fend%20date.
Thanks Carlos, yes we did read this article and we still wish to reflect milestones as an issue.
We are using fix versions as well and milestones will track markers within a fix version.
Unfortunately we are tracking work for an external program where we can not "ship/deploy" the code when we are ready and it can actually take months before we do so we need to use both of these to be able to report progress markers

Hello @Dione Taylor ,
Welcome to the Atlassian Community!!
If I understood correctly, you are using the Jira Server Version (On prem), Yes you can create custom issue type as a Milestone and you can use it in your project.
To create new Issuetype:
Select > Issues.
In the left column, go to Issue types > Add issue type.
Enter a name and description for your new issue type.
Choose between a standard or sub-task issue type.
Select Add.
Note: You need to Jira Administrator global permission.

Mayur

Thanks Mayur - the issue is not creating milestones (we can and have done that) its whether they can then be viewed in backlog and sprints or not.
