I want to setup my hierarchy level like the following:

Initiative - Capability - Epic - Story - Task

But I also want the option to have Initiative - Epic - Story - Task where Capability is not required.  Is this possible or can I only set it one way?

If I set it with Initiative - Capability - Epic, what happens to existing tickets that have Initiative as parent of Epics?

thanks

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Welcome to community! No it is not possible, as plans need to be able to show a hierarchy properly skipping levels doesn't show or even allow it to work.

More than likely if you make the change you won't see the issues on the hierarchy until after you fix them but without further testing which I do not have an instance to do it in I can't be sure.

However in general for most places that have a hierarchy Initiative is the level above Epic. So I would recommend creating a level like Themes above Initiative as this is more generally industry standard: https://www.atlassian.com/agile/project-management/epics-stories-themes has some good examples for best practices

Best,
Clark
