Budget estimation - sum up custom field of child tasks of epic

Hi

I am solving the budget estimation request. Epic task has several subtasks with numeric custom field. My aim is to sum from all child tasks the custom field  to a epic  -and do it each time if value is changed in child task.

I have seen automation examples with time tracking fields - can same approach be used with custom field?

Hi @Toomas Adson 

Yes, that sounds correct, and...because this is a custom field for Jira Data Center and you likely want to update the parent Epic, the REST API must be used.  Please see this post for more details in this great article from John Funk:

If you only need to report on the sum (e.g., in an email) the issue bulk-handling feature may be used.  That is covered in the same linked post.
